“The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value, greater even than that of any other art. The main reason for the preeminence is that, as sacred song closely bound to the text, it forms a necessary or integral part of the solemn liturgy.” [CSL, #112]
Due to the current COVID-19 health crisis, choral singing is prohibited by the Archdiocese of Boston. Our choirs will resume rehearsals and singing at Mass when it is safe to do so.
St. Catherine of Siena Parish Music Ministry has the following choirs:
- Children’s Choir – For all children in grades 3 to 8.
- Adult Choir
The Children’s Choir rehearses on Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 in the Music Room of the School, using the Siena Room entrance. The Children’s Choir is for children in grades 3-8, rehearses most Thursdays and sings in church 2-3 Sundays a month.
The Adult Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings in the Choir Loft of the church from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. High School students are welcome to join the Adult Choir. The Adult Choir sings most every Sunday at the 11:00 a.m. Mass, singing a wide selection of hymns, SATB choir anthems, and chant. In addition, the Adult Choir is a great way to meet people and make friends within your parish community; we have social gatherings and refreshments after choir on a regular basis. If it’s been a while since you’ve sung with a choir, or you’ve never sung with a choir before, please come talk to Joe after any Mass, give him a call at the Rectory (781-762-6080 x126 or email musicdirector (at) stcatherinenorwood.com. We have a great Music Program here at St. Catherine’s, and we welcome all to become involved by joining a choir!
